Legalese
You'll need to sign a Hackathon Agreement as part of the onboarding process on the day. We'll share this with you ahead of the event. We're doing this to both protect your rights and to be clear on expectations you should have of us and we have of you. We'll be open and transparent and are open to make changes based on feedback from registered hackers.
The agreement will cover the following:
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
All Intellectual Property developed by teams at the Spotless Hack @ the G will be owned by you and the rest of your team.
COMMERCIALISING IDEAS
If you come up with something super cool, we'd like to be able to promote you, the team and your idea widely. We'll grab your permission to do so and you can opt out.
Why is this important? We believe, sharing your idea is one of the best way to commercialise it and turn it into a business, because other people will help develop the idea or connect you with other people who can. Some people are worried that by doing this, someone else may steal the idea. The reality is, if it's that easy to steal - then there's not really a business there. You, your team, and your idea together are what will turn an idea into a money making business.
The team we see with the most commercial potential will be invited to join Kydo, Melbourne’s IoT & DataTech Innovation Space where you’ll get office space, access to an IoT Hardware Workshop and world class mentoring and support as part of a Pre-Accelerator program to give you and your idea the best possible chance of success.
The following is what's written above in legalese (legal language) and if you have any concerns of feedback, please contact us via email or the discussion page.

Subject to the licenses described below, any applicable intellectual property rights to a Submission will remain solely with the Participant(s).

All Participants, Spotless and SBC acknowledge that any ideas created during the Hackathon will have no exclusive ownership. Each Participant, Spotless and SBC is free to separately commercialise and exploit each Idea and create Products from the Ideas. Notwithstanding, any intellectual property created during the Hackathon will remain solely with the Participants(s).
Intellectual Property

(c) not violate the intellectual property rights or other rights including but not limited to copyright, trademark, patent, contract, and/or privacy rights, of any other person or entity.
A Participant may use third party hardware or software to create the Submission provided the Participant complies with all third party licensing requirements and the Submission components are solely the Maker’s work product and the result of the Maker’s ideas and creativity, and the Maker owns all rights to them.
A Participant may submit a Submission that includes the use of Open Source Software or hardware as defined below, provided the Maker complies the requirements of this section. By entering the Hackathon you represent, warrant, and agree that your Submission meets these requirements.
“Open Source Software” means any software code that is distributed as “open source software” or “freeware” or is otherwise distributed publicly or made generally available in source code form under terms that permit modification and redistribution of such software on the condition that if such software code is redistributed that it be (i) disclosed or distributed in source code form; (ii) licensed for the purpose of making derivative works; or (iii) distributed at no charge, including but not limited to, software licensed or distributed under any of the collection of Open Source Initiative (“OSI”) approved licenses.
BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP
The intent of the Hackathon is to encourage people to suggest their ideas and innovations to Spotless, SBC and Partners. Mere participation in this Competition does not create an obligation on either your part or part of Spotless, SBC and Hackathon partners to negotiate or enter into any business relationship or to sign any commercial agreement.
